Community Volunteer Award

Community Volunteer Award1 Valspar employees donate many hours to non-profit organizations, thereby helping to improve the quality of life in their communities. These efforts reflect positively on the company and also provide an opportunity for volunteers to grow personally and develop other valuable skills.

One of Valspar's core values is being a good corporate citizen, employer and neighbor - it's part of what we believe makes a great company. Valspar is fortunate to have many employees involved in their communities, willing to share their time, knowledge and experience.

2009 Community Volunteer Award Winners

The award was established in 1989. Nominees are assessed based on their impact on the community and charitable organization, the impact the volunteer experience had on the individual employee, and his or her personal dedication. As part of their recognition, recipients were honored at Valspar's annual meeting, and the Valspar Foundation contributed $1,000 to the organization of each award recipient's choice.

Three of our employees have been awarded with the 2009 Community Volunteer Award in recognition of exceptional volunteer service in their communities.

Robert Bundy, Tank Wagon Unloader - Garland, Texas

Community Volunteer 2008 Award Winner: Bill Heiden Robert Bundy volunteers over 300 hours annually at a local food shelf. He is making a difference in the lives of young children while making his community a better place. Bundy was recognized for his work in helping to provide food to people in need in the inner-city areas of East and West Dallas. In addition, he mentors many of the younger volunteers and motivates them to continue their work.

Paul Griffin, Production Lead - Garland, Texas

Community Volunteer 2008 Award Winner: Bill Heiden As PTA president, Paul Griffin has volunteered approximately 400 hours annually. As a soccer coach, he volunteers an average of two to four hours a week, having missed only two practices in the past six years. Griffin was recognized for his work with schools and at-risk children. Among the numerous efforts that he has initiated is a program to instill positive male role models for the youth of the community.

Barbara Layton, Traffic Coordinator - Newburyport, Massachusetts

Community Volunteer 2008 Award Winner: Sylvain Desrochers Barbara Layton has been active with many volunteer organizations for more than three years, spending hundreds of hours unselfishly helping others. Layton was recognized for her efforts to provide clothing for homeless people, underprivileged children and individuals with serious medical conditions. She was also recognized for her work in assisting our military families with support, resources and financial aid.
